p a i n t

We have never had the luxury of painting our dwelling.  I know luxury sounds like a stretch but I'm so excited to customize in that way.  Right now the entire place is done in classic JoCo Pottery Barn'esque neutral.  Fine start, whatevs.  The kitchen has a dark floor and dark cabinets so I'd really like something bright to offset that.  Help me with some color ideas.  I love bright and airy.  I'm also ready for some COLOR.

  1. What is the backsplash? Is that tile? Are you ready for bright colors like red? Or a bright cheery yellow? Or are you thinking less radical? Is there a color in the countertop you can use? How about a soft green, or a lime green?

  2. Cabinets white - then you can do *anything*, and the room will lighten up by THIS MUCH!!!

Good luck and have fun :)

  3. What are you painting, the tile? I would start by panting those cabinets white and take the old hardware off and either spray it steel colored or update the hardware (you can replace the handles, be careful about the hinges. they may not make that size hinge any longer!) then see how you feel!
I really like this shade in kitchens:

  5. oooh.. I had not planned on diving into painting those cabinets. i didn't want to paint the tile either. heh. I was really only thinking of the walls. I'm scared to just paint over that wood.
